Lots o Tux

I must say… I am quite disappointed that Mr. Red will be out of the military once our wedding finally rolls around. Because there’s just something about the way a man looks so heroic in uniform — tehe.

Anyway… that basically means that it is time to look for tuxes… I mean, it’s not really time now… as the wedding is still like a million years away. But as I was procrastinating, I tried to decide whether or not there is a difference between tuxes… I mean, they just all look the same! Or do they?

After browsing around, I decided that there are some slight differences. And I’ve decided that he should probably wear a shorter jacket rather than a longer one, as, while he’s not short, he’s not particularly tall either. I decided that I’m not the biggest fan of the one-button tuxes, as I feel like they’re more likely to get the front wings… I’m not sure if you know what I’m talking about… but that’s like when the front of the jacket pops out as if the guy is womanly-endowed in the chest area. So two-button seems good to me. I’ve also decided that I’m not really the biggest fan of super-shiny vests… because they’re just too shiny. I’d like something more dull but still fancy-looking.

After all this looking around, I realized that I actually have a lot more of an opinion on tuxes than I originally thought I had! I also noticed that Men’s Wearhouse has a tool where you can… DESIGN YOUR OWN TUX! Now, design-your-own tools are basically my favorite procrastination tool, so here’s what I came up with (jacket: Joseph & Feiss Two-Button Notch Lapel):

Although, now I’m almost considering the kind with tails in the back a la Looney Toons, where they belt out those orchestrated classics! Do you think Mr. Red would go for that? There’s just something so sultry and James Bond about it… (I’d like it in black, though.)

Of course, there’s one thing for sure… I am a shoe girl, and I definitely definitely definitely want him to wear his dancing shoes!

Newly Caked!

When I first got engaged/ before I was even engaged (crazy me), I had all these ideas of how I wanted my wedding to look, without even realizing how old-fashioned some of my ideas were… Not that it really matters, as it’s my wedding, not some fashion magazine’s wedding… but still… I didn’t realize what better ideas were out there! Some of my original ideas included a cascading bouquet (still love them though), baby’s breath fillers (ick!), traditional photography (journalistic conquers, by far!), and many other very outdated things. So… I guess it probably won’t surprise you when I tell you that my idea of my dream cake was the kind with stairs and a fountain and lots of columns… hello, 80’s!

Of course, thankfully, I quickly discovered that there are far superior options today! Cakes are no longer cakes… they are creative masterpieces… or something like that!

But now, after all this thinking, I’m thinking something even more non-traditional *gasp*… I mean, who can resist the cuteness that cupcakes offer???

Especially ones that fit my theme! I’d like something like red frosted cupcakes with white snowflakes! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find any pictures of my idea online… but here’s a few inspirational ones I found along the way!

Any thoughts?

World’s Shortest Fairytale

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl “Will you marry me?”

The girl said: “NO!”

And the girl lived happily ever after and went shopping, dancing, camping, drank martinis, ate chocolate, always had a clean house, never had to cook, did whatever the hell she wanted, never argued, didn’t get fat, traveled more, had many lovers, didn’t save money, and had all the hot water to herself.

She went to the theater, never watched sports, never wore friggin’ lacy lingerie that went up her ass, had high self esteem, never cried or yelled, felt and looked fabulous in sweat pants and was pleasant all the time.

THE END

Goddamnit! I feel like I made a mistake somewhere!!! Just kidding, Mr. Red. You know I love you hehe.

Over the top extravagant… but I want it!

Being the young girl that I am at 21 years old, I have been trying to budget my wedding as much as I can, while still keeping that vision of my dream wedding.  My parents have been very generous with their wedding present, but my fiance and I both decided that it would be in our best interest to try to save as much money as possible for our future, rather than blowing it all on one day!

With that said, I couldn’t help but wish I could spoil myself a little when I saw this picture!
NYC ice sculpture

After all, he did propose to me on top of the Empire State Building!  It would just be so fitting for our wedding… but obviously quite a ridiculous thing to spend money on… I mean, spending probably like $500+ on a big block of ice that’s going to melt???  I must be crazy!  But I definitely do want to work in the ESB as some sort of (much less expensive) detail into our wedding.  So we’ll see!

Dress redss!

I guess I ought to share my wedding dress story, as it is quite a crazy one. Now, I’ve always been into weddings and such, as I am a huge sappy hopeless romantic. So, one summer (more specifically: the summer before I got engaged, sound crazy yet?), one of my future bridesmaids told me about Filene’s Basement having its huge Running of the Brides event sale… I think this was after the actual ROB, though, as this was actually in Filene’s Basement in downtown Boston (post-sale, I guess?). Aaaanyway, she said that we should go one day just for fun to try on dresses. I was all into this, as I’ve always been into going into stores, trying on fancy dresses with my friends (or random clothes) and taking pictures!

Of course, I was definitely not planning to buy a dress, as I didn’t have an engagement ring as of yet. But then, when I walked into the store, I saw it! The most beautiful dress just waiting for me! It was a exactly the tulled princess ball gown I had imagined in my dreams, with the added bonus of beautiful red rose embroidery running down it with little jewels in the center. I knew it was the one. I quickly checked the tag though, and my face dropped. Size 10??? Definitely NOT my size! Obviously it was not meant to be.

So then, my friend and I went and started browsing other dresses. I quickly noticed that only size 10’s and aboves were available to try on… so I decided that it probably wouldn’t even be worth it to try on dresses that will just hang on me. Just as we were about to leave, a sales associate approached us, and asked if we needed help finding anything. I quickly replied, “Only if you can find something in a size 8 or smaller…” To which she replied, “What size are you normally? Wedding dresses usually run big… you’d probably be around a size 10.” Size 10? Did I hear what I thought I heard?

So then, I knew I had to try the beautiful red rosed beauty on! The only problem with it now was that if had a broken zipper — something so easily fixable! I put it on, using the zipper clips to close it, and it fit absolutely perfectly! I looked in the mirror, it was me as I had imagined myself looking on my wedding day! It was perfect, it was fate, and most importantly, it was under $300 (discounted from over $1000) with 10% off because of the broken zipper! I didn’t care whether it would be 10 years before I got married — that dress was meant to be!

My friend, however, didn’t want me to make my usual rash decisions. So she made me try on some of the other far inferior and uglier dresses in the store. My mind just wouldn’t leave my red rosed beauty. So, in the end, I bought it, humming, “Going to the chapel…” The sales associate gave me a congratulations, and wished me luck. And my dress and I rode off into the sunset together!

My mother told me that it was horrible luck what I had done, and that now my boyfriend would probably break up with me. On the contrary, I got proposed to a year later! And, a year and a half after the purchase, I still have no regrets.
